The nature of my work sometimes takes me places – which is how I wound up at Lisette’s Cafe and Bakery in Bangsar early one weekday morning. Tucked in a leafy conclave just a stone’s throw away from Jalan Maarof, Lisette is no stranger to the local cafe scene.
In fact, I’d say it’s one of the pioneering ones in Bangsar that popularised the ‘aesthetic cafe’ trend – but don’t let that fool you into thinking that they’re all about looks and no substance, because their F&B offerings are equally impressive.

Lisette’s beautifully designed interiors offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangsar. The cafe’s most striking feature is the wall of flowers at the outdoor patio, where most of the customers were seated during my visit – but being a true blue Malaysian I thought it was too warm and chose to sit indoors instead.

The main dining area is bathed in natural light, courtesy of glass skylights. Wooden chairs and tables are appropriately matched with patterned table cloths and pillows, while purposefully unfinished brick walls and flooring create a homely vibe. Nestled against the wall is their bakery, where the delicious smell of freshly baked breads and pastries waft from, mingling with the aromatic scents of brewed coffee.

Bakes and cakes aside, Lisette offers a mouthwatering array of local and Wester favourites on its menu, with plenty of vegan-friendly options. Scanning their breakfast offerings, there was French Toast, Roti Paratha, Ipoh Hor Fun, Mumbai Eggs Kejriwal, and Baked Eggs Shakshuka, all of which sounded tempting.

I finally settled for Chicken Waffles (RM32+), which came in generous portions, featuring three large pieces of herb crusted fried chicken drizzled with honey mustard BBQ sauce, a sunny side up egg, and a fluffy piece of waffle. A small pitcher of golden maple syrup completed the presentation. Vegetarians may choose to swap out the protein with plant-based herb crusted chicken.

Was in need of a caffeine kick, so I got an iced latte (RM13). I like that they provide the syrup separately, so you can adjust the beverage’s sweetness according to your preference.

I’ve always wanted to try the chicken and waffle pairing, and Lisette’s version was decent. The chicken was tender and enveloped in crispy breading, although I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was deep fried with the skin left intact, as the breading fell apart from the meat easily. Otherwise, the savoury-sweet combo of all the elements worked well together, and I especially liked the garnish (I believe it’s watercress / arugula, but correct me if I’m wrong) which added a nutty, pine-like flavour to it. Overall, a very hearty brunch that lasted me til dinner time.
Prices are on the higher end, but understandable due to its location and ambience. It gets crowded over lunch time and weekends. They also have two other outlets, at 163 Retail Park Mont Kiara and Empire Subang.
