Nothing spells comfort food more than a hot bowl of pork noodles on a rainy day (and we’ve been having a lot of those lately!). So braving the drizzle, the fam and I went to check out a new place called Lao Dou Pork Noodles at Bandar Puchong Jaya one evening. The name is quirky, since it’s a Chinese slang for ‘Old Father’.

They serve nothing but pork noodles. There’s the basic, but I opted for one with all the trimmings (RM12.90) – intestines, liver, kidney, patty, slices – to go along with my kueyteow (flat rice noodles – they also have yellow mee, lousheefun, mihun, etc). The innards/noodles were topped with deep fried bits of pork lard.Service was slow: even though the restaurant was fairly empty, we still had to wait for half an hour for the food, but I’m told this is because they make the food on a bowl to bowl basis instead of mass-cooking a big batch.
Good:
- The soup tasted sweet (I’m guessing they boiled the stock for hours)
- Noodles were nice and soft without being soggy.
- Pork patties minced well, with hints of preserved vegetables for a savoury kick
- Tender pork slices
Bad:
Almost all the innard items, namely kidney, liver and intestines, had a strong gamey smell which was overpowering every time I took a bite.
All in all, an okay bowl of noodles, but it definitely could have been better if not for the innards. Maybe go for their basic bowl instead?

Bro’s ‘dry’ version which also has pork stuff in a soup, but the noodles are tossed in a sauce and served separately.
