There are many Filipinos in Cyberjaya (mostly working in customer service / IT ) – so it’s about time a restaurant catering to the community opened in the neighbourhood.

Fiesta Cabalen, which welcomed its first diners just a few months ago, is a cosy spot specialising in Kapampangan cuisine, from the Pampanga region which is also known as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines.

Some of the popular dishes you’ll find here include beef kare-kare (beef stew in peanut sauce), chicken inasal (grilled chicken basted in vinegar and soy sauce) sinigang (tamarind stew), and chicken adobo.

The restaurant has indoor and al fresco seating. The latter looks pretty at night thanks to the fairy lights and colourful umbrellas. There’s also an outdoor grill.

N and I had the (left) Trio Mucho, comprising fried rice, pancit canton, and fried chicken; as well as the chef’s signature beef in a creamy sauce. Both dishes were good (albeit a bit on the salty side for me), but what really stood out was the fried chicken, which tasted homey and not like commercial / fast food versions. The beef was also executed well, chunky, but fork-tender.

To round off the meal, we had a look at the dessert selection at the display counter, before settling for ube halaya (mashed purple yam with condensed milk). The restaurant put cheese on top and torched it, which was a nice touch and balanced out the dessert’s sweetness. I like the texture, as it still had chunks of yam within, giving it more bite.

Meals here will set you back an average of RM20+ for individual dishes, but they have cheaper set lunch options.

When we visited they did not serve pork or alcohol, but the restaurant has announced that they are non-halal effective December 7 2025. This means that some menu items will probably be added – which warrants a return visit!

  1. The quality has declined significantly since the restaurant’s first month of opening. Half of the menu items are consistently unavailable, which is disappointing. Many patrons have complained about the inconsistent toughness of the beef, reduced portion sizes compared to the early days, and the overall mediocrity of the dishes. Given these issues, it’s hard to justify the prices for what you receive.

    1. Hm, unfortunately you’re right. Since writing this, I went back for a third visit after two initial good ones, but was sorely disappointed with the longganisa I ordered. It took way long to serve and was cold – when I inquired if the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders, was told that ‘that’s how they make the longganisa’ coz it has to be boiled first and then grilled due to the thickness.. but why then was it served cold? lol. I hope the kitchen improves or they might not see return visits.
