Puchong has so many cafes opening (and closing – the F&B industry is a tough one) that it’s hard to keep track – so it’s no wonder that I haven’t heard of Bound Coffee in Pusat Bandar Puchong, even though it has already been running for over a year. Located in a commercial area just a stone’s throw from Lotus Puchong, this cosy spot serves coffee and fusion cuisine, such as pastas and hearty rice bowls.

The shop boasts a clean, minimalist aesthetic dominated by neutral tones of white, grey, wood, and unfinished surfaces that lend the space a raw look. It was pretty packed during our visit, but it looks like a nice place to chill and get some work done during off-peak hours. There’s a selection of pastries and cakes too for those with a sweet tooth.

The menu has heavy Japanese influences, so think Japanese katsu curry and tamago mentaidon, with a few local options like the Classic Rendang Bowl and Hometown Spicy Bowl. Similarly, there are classic pastas like aglio olio and carbonara, in addition to fusion items like Smoked Duck Carbonara and Buttermilk Bliss. Prices start from RM18++ up to RM25++ for most mains.

The bro and dad both had the Chicken Rendang Bowl, which had the sides of your typical nasi lemak, but uses fragrant jasmine rice in place of santan-infused rice. It was a decent iteration, as the chicken was extremely tender, flavourful, and came apart from the bone easily with just a light touch of the fork.

Moo and I had something similar – she went for the Carbonara Ham with Chicken, while I chose the version with Smoked Duck, which was a few bucks more. Moo didn’t enjoy hers as she said it didn’t have enough flavour, but I thought mine was fine. Maybe it was because the smoked duck added some saltiness to it. Pasta was done al dente, mushrooms were plump, and the creaminess was not cloying.

I’ve been trying to reduce my sugar intake so I got an iced Americano. You can choose to get a Robusta or an Arabica blend. I got the latter since it’s not so strong, but the flavour was still pretty intense – not that it’s a bad thing. A lot of places serve thin, watery Americanos, which is not the case here.

For coffee lovers who want to make their own brews at home, Bound carries their own blends which you can purchase at the storefront.
Bound is a nice little spot for brunch or if you just want to chill over coffee. Service is friendly, and prices are reasonable considering the setting. They open early too, so a plus point for those who want to grab a quick brekkie / coffee before clocking in for work.
