French for ‘little house’, Petite Maison Brasserie has multiple branches across the Klang Valley, spanning not just bistro-style dining, but also cafes and boulangeries.
The branch at Mutiara Damansara is classic and tres chic, with dark wooden panels paired with marble tabletops and elegant black chairs. Our visit coincided with Halloween, so the interiors were decked out in spooky decor.

Expect classic and fusion European dishes on the menu, including pastas, gourmet sandwiches, burgers, and hearty mains like Steak Frites (steak and fries), Brochette de Poulet, Buttermilk Crevettes, and Chicken Confit. Chicken was, unfortunately, unavailable during our visit, so most of us ended up ordering pastas.

It’s pretty difficult to get an authentic version of the classic French onion soup locally, but the version here had all the elements down pat, including the thin, crispy layer of cheese and bread blanketing the top. The soup itself was rich, comforting, and savoury, brimming with soft onions and grated cheese.

Pasta portions here are generous; they might even be enough for two small eaters. You can choose from spaghettini , rigatoni, or penne.

N does not like cream-based dishes, so it was not surprising that he went for a tomato-based pasta.

I on the other hand, love creamy pastas, so I got the Truffle Penne. The pasta’s hollow centre makes it perfect for soaking up the sauce. The dash of trufffe oil gave it a pleasant earthiness, which was further accentuated by liberal servings of mushrooms. While I did enjoy the dish, the cream got cloying after awhile, so I couldn’t finish the whole serving. I recommend sharing this with someone, accompanied by a side dish.

Mi had the Saumon Grille. The slab of fish was nicely grilled, sitting atop potatoes with their peels left on for maximum flavour, as well as a bed of sweet and tangy tartare sauce.

The store was having a promotion – in exchange for signing up for their member programme, we all got a free beverage of our choice. I thought it would have been a small cup, but it was a full-fledged serving, and the barista even went to the trouble of creating some latte art.

If you like cakes and pastries, the bistro has a small viennoisserie and boulangerie section selling exquisite tarts, cakes, madeleines, canelles, croissants, and other sweet treats.
Overall, Petite Maison delivers on its chic French bistro concept with good food and decent service, at a price point that matches its environment (RM20 – 50 for most mains). If you’re seated outdoors near the open-air Street and Fashion Walk area, you can pretend you’re on the streets of Paris, and people watch over a warm cup of coffee.
