Update: This outlet is permanently closed. They still have an outlet at Lot 10 Hutong, Kuala Lumpur.

Telawi Square in Bangsar is a tiny shopping gallery that hosts a dozen or so shops, including a few eateries. I was in the area after an assignment and saw a banner for Roast Duckking, which specialises in roast meats. Just what I was craving for lunch – so in I went!

The escalators at the mall are just wide enough for one person.

Roast Duckking is located on the first floor, with a perky orange colour scheme befitting a place that sells roasties. The restaurant is pretty small (as are most of the units here) and seats about 12 people, so it’s best to have a quick meal or have your food to go.

The menu has the usual trinity of roasties: chicken, pork (char siew and siew yuk), and duck, served with either rice or wonton noodles.

The duck here, according to the proprietess, is done Cantonese-style. I was given a drumstick cut, which came glistening with juices and oils atop a bed of fragrant rice. The duck’s skin was roasted to perfection, with thin, crispy and crackly skin, and the meat had a subtle aroma and slight sweetness to it, thanks to the various herbs it was bathed in before roasting.

Personally, I prefer my duck skin to be thicker with more fat underneath the skin (Like the version they serve at Soon Lok Puchong) , but this was very tasty as well.

To wash things down, I ordered some iced milk tea. While it tasted good and was refreshing in the hot weather, the portion was abysmally small and not worth the RM5 I paid for.

If you have a hankering for roasted duck rice or just looking for a no-frills place for lunch, Roast Duckking offers a decent option, and the price for the mains are fairly reasonable considering it’s Bangsar. Alternatively, you can try their food at their Lot 10 Hutong branch.
