For CNY / Hari Raya, my company treated us to lunch at Kwee Zeen, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s all-day dining and buffet establishment. It’s been awhile since my last meal at a hotel, and I’m glad it was at this venue because it was such a treat for the tastebuds.

Serving a mouthwatering range of Pan-Asian cuisine, Kwee Zeen sports classy and elegant interiors, with lofty ceilings and black marble floors. Stylish Parisian art is peppered throughout the premises, embodying Sofitel’s signature French touch.

During our visit, there were multiple stations to choose from, including a fresh seafood on ice and cheese counter, a dedicated dessert corner, as well as stations featuring Chinese, European, Indian, and Malay cuisine.

The cheese counter was my favourite, featuring giant blocks of semi-hard and hard cheeses, including Black Garlic Manchego, Cheddar, and Brie. While there were the usual condiments like fruits and crackers, I like that they had honey as well, which diners could ladle onto their cheeses for that perfect sweet and savoury combo.

While cold cuts are pretty common at most buffets, I’ve never seen them served on the machine before. The beef bresoala, an Italian salami, was perfectly sliced, with a larger portion of lean meat and just a bit of fat on the edges.

“Starter” round of fresh seafood with a cream sauce, smoked salami, and cold cuts of beef. Everything was tasty!

I was impressed with Kwee Zeen’s selection, which are a mix of Asian dishes that many Malaysians will love, such as ikan bakar, beef rendang, efu noodles and rotis served with savoury curries, as well as European offerings like Beef Bourguignon and Buttermilk fried chicken.

For health-conscious eaters, Kwee Zeen has a salad bar with fruits and organic vegetables paired with a variety of dressings and condiments.

The beef dishes were superb, as was the roast chicken with gravy.

If there’s one thing you absolutely must look out for, it’s the buttermilk fried chicken. Perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with oodles of flavour and umami.

Another thing that impresses at Kwee Zeen’s buffet is its array of desserts, which has a dedicated nook of its own.

The counters are laden with all sorts of sweets imaginable, from cakes and local kuehs, to a bubbling chocolate fountain which you can dunk fruits and marshmallows into, a doughnut rack, and an ice cream corner where you can customise your own icy treats.

While this buffet promotion is over at the time of writing, Kwee Zeen regularly has rotating buffet offerings on special occassions, such as for the upcoming Mother’s Day 2024, which will feature a Thai-centric menu.
