Since moving to our new place in Cyberjaya over a month ago, the Hubs and I haven’t had much chance to indulge in dimsum, as it is not as widely available as it is in Puchong, where I used to live. Thankfully, there’s a place in D Pulze Cyberjaya where I can get my fix!

Tucked on the mall’s top floor, Canton Boy is a fairly new addition to D Pulze, having opened about four months ago. This is the brand’s second outlet, with the first located at MyTOWN Shopping Centre in Cheras.
The Cyberjaya branch boasts calm, inviting interiors in hues of green and beige, with botanical motifs and rattan chairs. Floor to ceiling windows at one end of the restaurant allow natural light to illuminate the space, creating a warm and cozy ambience.

While Canton Boy’s menu is primarily Cantonese, as can be seen from the variety of dimsum dishes, it also serves Hainanese cuisine, in addition to local fare. Aside from their signature Hainanese chicken rice, expect porridge, rice rolls, and wok-fried items such as Yang Zhou fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, salted egg sotong, and more.
The Hubs wanted something more substantial, so he got the Roasted Chicken Rice (RM18.80). The food came beautifully presented in glazed bowls and serving plates. The rice was fluffy and tinged yellow from being cooked in chicken fat, while the chicken was served in a sizeable portion, perfectly tender on the inside with slightly crispy skin.

For mains, I got the Crispy prawn rice roll (RM 16.80). These are essentially prawn spring rolls, deep fried to a crisp, then wrapped in steamed rice rolls. The result is a delightful medley of crispy + soft and chewy textures, the flavours harmonized by sweet soy sauce with a kick from sambal belacan (latter two not pictured because I was too excited for food lol).

The Salad Prawn Dumplings (RM14.80) looked appetizing with their crispy golden brown exteriors. Each piece was conveniently cut into half for easy eating. The inside was packed with juicy, bouncy prawns. As good as the ones from my favourite dimsum place, albeit at a steeper price.

Another winner for me was the Stuffed Chicken Wings (RM14.80). The deboned wings are stuffed with shrimp and vegetables, then marinated and deep fried. The results are stellar: a mouthful of tender, savoury meat with each bite, minus the hassle of contending with bones.

To wash everything down, we ordered a pot of Chinese tea, which is refillable. Nothing like tea to go with dimsum – that’s why it’s called yumcha (literally, drink tea!)
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food at Canton Boy. As someone who grew up eating pork, there’s always something ‘missing’ with places serving pork-free dimsum, but Canton Boy manages to recreate a flavour profile that is very close to what my taste buds are used to. Although the price is about double of what it would cost at casual dim sum joints, you’re basically paying for the air conditioning / service / setting.
Canton Boy’s Cheras outlet is Halal certified. I believe the Cyberjaya one is in the process of getting certification.
