I follow a couple of food influencers on social media, and I’ve been seeing posts on this relatively new spot in Puchong called Luck Bros Plus. Their menu is extensive, with local and fusion dishes the likes of pasta, nasi lemak, rice, and more – but what piqued my interest was the giant xiaolongbao (soup dumpling), so we went to check the place out for brunch on Sunday.

Luck Bros Plus is located within Taman Perindustrian Pusat Bandar Puchong. The buildings in the area were initially designed for office/factory use, so they all have an industrial vibe, but the place somehow became a cafe/restaurant/bar hotspot instead.
The interior is spacious and modern, with a white, green, and gold theme. The high ceiling lends it an airy sense of space, but there’s also a strong reverb so it’s noisy – not an intimate space where you can chill over coffee or work on your laptop.

The Hubs and I ordered a bunch of dimsum items to share, since it’s been awhile since we last had dimsum.
I can’t remember what this drink was called as they offer variations of teh tarik, but it came with a glass of milk, a shotglass of concentrated tea (which you’re supposed to pour into the milk and mix), and a coffee-infused ice ball. I think using a flavoured ice ball is brilliant, as it doesn’t dilute the flavour of the tea.
The drink itself was great – smooth and creamy, but not too sweet. Their signature beverage here is the 3-in-1 where you can a plastic glass divided into three sections, each containing kopi, teh, and cham (coffee + tea), the holy trinity of Malaysian kopitiams everywhere.

Another kopitiam staple we got was eggs on toast, accompanied by a curry dip. This was okay. The dip could have had more oomph; I could taste the spices but there wasn’t enough savouriness to it.

We didn’t know that Luck Bros is actually pork-free, so the Hubs was sorely disappointed that they didn’t have char siew bao lol. He still wanted to get his bao fix, so we got the chicken version instead. Again, these were alright. Filling was adequate and had a sweetish taste, and the bread texture was okay.

The XL Shrimp Siew Mai looked interesting, so we ordered one. It’s a humongous piece of chicken and shrimp siew mai, topped with a whole shrimp and seafood roe. Among all the food items we ordered, this fared the best. It was cooked thoroughly, the chicken and shrimp mix was juicy and well seasoned, and there was plenty of bite and texture to it.

Regular siew mai for size comparison.

And finally – the giant siew loong bao. As mentioned, we did not know Luck Bros is pork-free, so I came with the thought that I was going to get pork siew loong bao. Since that wasn’t available, chicken was the next best thing.
Well, it was certainly giant, floating in the middle of a pool of clear broth. The dumpling’s skin was pretty thick, so it felt a bit like eating mee hoon kueh (I don’t mean this in a bad way though, coz I like that it has a lot of bite). The meat was tender, the soup on the inside was concentrated and savoury, while the broth outside was light and sweet.

To end the meal on a sweet-savoury note, we got some salted egg buns! I know they say not to judge by appearances, but the table next to us ordered these and they looked so cute we had to get them as well. It was almost a shame to rip them apart. The buns were bouncy and fluffy, the custard within on the oily side.
It was busy during our visit and servers seemed harried, but service was otherwise okay. Prices are slightly higher than your usual dimsum place, but then again, they don’t only serve dim sum and have a variety of other dishes on offer too. This is my Canto side speaking as I think dim sum always tastes better when there’s pork in it, but Luck Bros works if you’re looking for a decent pork-free option. They’re also open until 1AM, for when those supper cravings hit.
