Update: Hoshino has closed all of its outlets in Malaysia, including this branch in Mid Valley.
Originally from Japan, Hoshino Coffee serves hand-dripped coffee, desserts, as well as yoshoku (fusion cuisine) dishes such as beefsteak, Japanese curry, and deep-fried cutlet rice. Their outlet in Mid Valley is located just next to the entrances connecting Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens, so it’s hard to miss.
The last time I was here was back in 2019, so it has been awhile. The interior hasn’t changed much and still boasts the same dark wood furniture, with chandelier-shaped lights on the ceiling and partitioned booths for privacy.

Hoshino has an extensive menu, their specialty being the hand-dripped coffee made from Arabica beans, and their pot-baked souffles, which are made to order and require a minimum wait time of 20 minutes.
If you’re craving a heavier meal, they also carry rice and spaghetti dishes like curry rice with chicken cutlet and onsen egg, mixed paella with chicken and seafood, beef steak platter, mentaiko carbonara, and salmon with wasabi cream sauce.

Ev and I went for some light bites and drinks, since we had dinner plans later. It was raining and I wanted something soupy, so I ordered the clam chowder. It was surprisingly tasty; creamy but not cloying, and chock full of clams, soft potatoes, and mushrooms. Definitely ordering this again if I’m making a return visit.

We also had a plate of chicken karaage to share. These were just okay. The inside was moist and nicely cooked, but the exterior was for some reason pretty hard and tasteless.

Ev got their tea time set, which includes a souffle of choice (she got the matcha) and a drink. The quality of the souffle is still consistent even after all these years – warm but not too sweet, fluffy, and dusted with a sprinkle of sugar on top.

Last but not least, a cup of hot caramel latte. The coffee was on the sweet side thanks to the caramel sauce, but it was strong and smooth.
There’s a lot to try at Hoshino, and the interior is cozy, which makes it a nice place to take a break from shopping. Prices are reasonable for the location and setting.
