Can’t choose between having burgers or tacos for lunch? You don’t have to, as Flip Burger X Fold Taco at Penang’s Gurney Paragon Mall serves both under one roof. N and I stopped here for lunch after a grueling walk under the sun, and their juicy pork burgers were just what we needed to refuel.
The burger menu left us spoiled for choice, as there were many intriguing options. Aside from classics like the Flip Burger, there were also unique burgers that brought together the best of East and West, such as the Katsu Baga, Shabu-shabu Kyarameru (pork, candied shabu-shabu beef, and nutty caramel), and Korean burger (with sticky sauce, kimchi, and seaweed mayo). If you just want a snack, they have a good selection as well, including ham fingers, hash browns, onion rings, and mozarella sticks.
The other half of the menu features tacos, nachos, wings, thick cut sandwiches, and other snacks.
The shop has a cool, modern vibe, with booth seating. We slid into a booth and were surprised to find that they have power plugs. Handy for tourists looking to juice up their devices quickly while getting a bite.
Our pork burgers were done in no time, and we went to pick them up from the kitchen window. They were beautifully done, with a thick, juicy patty, slightly charred on the outside, sandwiched between two fluffy sesame seed buns. A slice of cheese and caramelized onions sat on top, with lettuce and tomatoes on the bottom.
Just good old-fashioned, tasty pork burgers! Patty was flavourful and moist with each bite, the meat was well seasoned. I also like that it’s not one of those ‘towering’ burgers that fall apart in a complete mess, or those that are absolutely drenched in sauce to the point you can’t taste anything else.
Penang has excellent street food, but if you’re looking for something more Western, then Flip Burger X Fold Taco hits the spot. It’s also in an air-conditioned mall, giving you some respite from Penang’s relentless heat.
