Cafe Tujoh, Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya

Tucked within a quiet, leafy suburb in Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya, Cafe Tujoh is an Instagrammable spot that features a mix of modern and retro elements, with courtyard-style seating, skylights that allow for plenty of natural sunlight during the day, as well as lots of greenery. The cafe specializes in Western and fusion fare, with interesting items such as soft shell crab tom yum pasta and green curry beef pasta served alongside classics like burgers and fish and chips.

Unique decor – a wall of old television and radios sets!

The ex-colleagues and I were here for a joint farewell party – as both myself and another member of the group were leaving the company. I think they picked a great venue, as aside from the nice ambience, the food was pretty tasty as well, albeit on the pricier side.

We got some snacks to share, including curly fries, which were seasoned and deep fried to savoury, golden perfection. As for mains, I went for the Smoked Duck pasta.

The pasta was cooked well with an al dente texture, but the creamy carbonara-like sauce became cloying after a few bites. It also tasted sweet, which I did not enjoy. Other than that, the duck was good, with a nice layer of fat and chewiness. I think it would have been a pretty decent dish if they cut down on the sweet flavour and made it more balanced.

R ordered the fish and chips. Instead of regular fries, the fish was served with sides of salad dressed in a balsamic sauce, and thin, sweet potato crisps which were super crunchy and addictive.

A’s beef burger was a towering stack of two beef patties with sliced cheese atop a bed of greens, sandwiched between two toasted buns. I notice that portions at Tujoh are sizable, which at least justifies their price tag.

To wash everything down, a glass of cold latte. It was milky and not too sweet, just what I needed to stay awake (at my age you start feeling sleepy at 10pm lol) – since some of us were going for drinks after dinner.

Those with a sweet tooth can round up the meal with a slice of cake. They offer many different flavours, including tiramisu, chocolate orange cake, and burnt cheesecake.

Service is friendly. On busy days you might have to vacate your table quickly to make way for other patrons. Otherwise, it’s a chill spot to have a cuppa or two and some food with friends.
