The saying goes that the proof is in the pudding, but at Proof, it’s in their pizza. Nominated as Malaysia’s best pizzeria at the prestigious 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2025 rankings, this chic restaurant specializes in – you guessed it – pizza, cooked to bubbly, crispy perfection in woodfire ovens.

The last time I was at APW was years ago, when RIUH used to have their festivals here . More restaurants and bars have sprung up since then, turning the spot into a proper dining enclave. Some restos have their own dining space, but you can also dine al fresco at the central open-air foyer and order from the various establishments.

It was full inside Proof, so we opted to sit outdoors and enjoy the greenery and fresh air.

Traditionalists can go for the classics like Margherita, Nduja Sausage + Rapini, and Carne, as well as gourmet pizzas like Umbrian Black Truffle and Pizza Mortadella + Stracciatella. If you’re feeling adventurous, try Proof’s wacky spin on local flavours with options like Nasi Lemak Pizza (coconut bechamel with fior di latte, Asian-spiced chicken thigh, sambal chilli, cucumber and sous vide egg) and Assam Salmon Foccacia di Recco. There’s something for dessert lovers too, like the Figs & Gorgonzola Pizza and Nutella S’mores Pizza.

Basic is always the best, so we got a Margherita (Medium – 9 inches = RM32). The sourdough crust was puffy and slightly charred on the sides – exactly how a good sourdough pizza should be – while the cheese was still bubbling slightly from the heat of the oven. Texture-wise, I give it a 10, hands down – the bread was soft but not doughy and had a perfect crisp on the edges. The toppings were top notch too, with the perfect ratio of tomato base vs cheese.

For our second pizza, we went for the Pizza Parma Con Rocula (Medium – RM42), The ingredients came together wonderfully: there was the saltiness of the parma, the natural sweetness/ tanginess of the olives and cherry tomatoes, the earthiness from the rocket salad, the creaminess from the mozzarella and sharpness of grana padano, bound by lashings of sweet-sour balsamic vinegar. Perfezione!

The restaurant has a good selection of wines, but we got a beer instead which is just as good with pizza.

So far, this is one of the best pizzas I’ve had in KL ,and I can see why the resto is consistently on the list of best pizzerias in Southeast Asia. Price point is fair too, considering the area.
