Satisfy cravings for Tex-Mex and American fare at Chachi Mexican Street Food, tucked within the busy SS15 student enclave. The fun and colourful spot projects a fiesta-like vibe, with its interior awash in bright hues of white, orange, and blue. The restaurant shares a space with Big Brooklyn Pizza, which has a large wood-fired brick oven up front.

We wanted to try both menus, so we ordered a pizza and wings from Big Brooklyn, and some tacos from Chachi to share.
Any good pizza joint worth their salt would have their basics down pat – and Brooklyn delivered with a solid beef pepperoni pizza (RM26 – 9 inch) its thin and crispy crust loaded with cheese and bubbled on the edges. We were hoping for more pepperoni slices, but the cheese and tomato base was well balanced, so it was still a pretty darn good pizza.
Aside from pepperoni, you can also go for favourites like the Classic New York Pizza, Margarita, and BBQ Chicken Pizza. There are some interesting flavours as well with a Mexican twist, such as Grilled Chicken with Torched Orange, Smoked Duck and Sweet Peach, and Beef Bacon and Jalapeno Aioli.

Also from Big Brooklyn were these Sloppy Buffalo Wings (RM21.90), served with crisp potato wedges, tomato sauce and ranch. It’s been difficult for me to find buffalo wings that I like here, so I was happy with this version. The wings were fried to perfection and retained a nice, crispy exterior, while the buffalo sauce was sour and tangy, balanced out by the creamy ranch. The wedges were great too; slightly salty, whilst being soft and fluffy on the inside.

Last but not least were the Tajin Shrimp and Pineapples Tacos (RM30) from Chachi. Chunky, battered pieces of shrimp and sweet pineapples came served on a bed of red cabbage, neatly packed in hard shell tacos. The eating was messy as the tacos broke apart quite easily. This was not as good as the other items we ordered. I felt like the taste of the red cabbage, which had been soaked in a sauce, was overpowering, as I could barely taste anything else aside from cabbage + saltiness.
Chachi offers other types of tacos too including pulled beef birria, lamb taco, chicken, and fish & mango; as well as nachos, quesadillas, burritos, chilli con carne, chips and salsa, and guacamole.

Overall, two hits and one miss. I like the pizza, and the buffalo wings were stellar. Will be coming back for more wings definitely – and maybe try other items on Chachi’s menu.
