Sushi King is popular among Malaysians for its fast and affordable Japanese food, ever since the company introduced the conveyor-belt dining concept way back in 1996. Before that, sushi, sashimi and the like were only available at authentic (and often pricey) Japanese restaurants – so Sushi King was really the one that started off cheap and yummy sushi for the masses. That doesn’t mean that they compromise on quality, coz the food there is decent for their competitive pricing.

They recently introduced a ‘mix and match’ menu. These are smaller servings of the regular menu items, such as Curry Udon, Chicken Katsu Rice, Tempura, etc for only RM14.

I was at their outlet at IOI Mall the other day and decided to have a Mini Chicken Karaage over rice, paired with Tempura Moriawase. The chicken is crunchy and well-salted on the onside, flavourful and juicy on the inside, albeit a little small. The mayo + teriyaki sauce drizzled over it added to the overall flavour. And I just love anything fried with hot, fluffy rice. 🙂

The tempura was good – two pieces of ebi and some long beans. I also ordered a deep fried soft shell crab (I put it all together on the same plate). Was a bit disappointed as it wasn’t even one whole crab – just two legs and a few small pieces. The taste was okay.

And of course, one can’t come to Sushi King and not have their Chuuka Idaako (marinated baby octopus). I swear they lace it with crack, it’s so addictive. ._. Sweet, savoury, with sesame bits and a side of cold shredded veges.
