There’s a newly opened Chinese restaurant in Bandar Putri, Puchong which always seems to be packed with customers every time we drove past. Curious, we finally dropped by have dinner at Ocean Seafood Restaurant to see what the fuss was about. Turns out, the place serves all sorts of seafood for only RM15 per dish !
We ordered a sea cucumber hotpot with brocolli and mushrooms. The portion for this was depressingly small, but I understand that sea cucumber is expensive. The broth was tasteless though.
This spinach soup was filled with much more ingredients – bits of chicken egg and sliced century egg. If you don’t know what a century egg is, it’s a duck egg preserved in ammonia until the white turns a dark jelly-like colour and the yolk turns a creamy grey/black. Some people have likened the smell and taste to ammonia, but I grew up adding century egg to my porridge so I love it.
The best dish of the night was their soy-sauce prawns. The portion was very generous for Rm15; the prawns were medium-sized and stir-fried to springy, succulent perfection. The type of meal that you have to lick your fingers clean to really enjoy.
