Good food is worth a bit of hassle – which is probably why foodies still flock to the TTDI neighbourhood in spite of its horrendously limited parking.

Among these popular food establishments is Big Singh Chapati, a casual spot that dishes out satisfying rotis, hearty biryanis, and other authentic Punjabi fare.

There’s a small show kitchen at the front of the restaurant, where you can watch the chef in action flipping rotis made fresh to order. While chapatis are their specialty, they also serve tandoor breads like naan, parathas (or pronthas), as well as heavier mains such as butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, mutton keema, and more.

For my bread, I got the garlic butter naan, which was served piping hot and toasty, with an appetising sheen on its surface and puffy, lightly charred edges. The texture was perfect – soft and pillowy at the centre, puffy and crisp on the sides, and deliciously garlicky.

Look at that cheese pull!

N ordered the Briyani Egg, which was fluffy, flavourful, and well spiced. The portion was pretty substantial too.

We also got a butter chicken to share. Both the rice and the bread were good enough on their own, but they were great for soaking up the creamy, savoury sauce. The chicken chunks were a bit dry, but the sauce made up for it.

And finally, to wash everything down, a refreshing, not-too-sweet glass of Mango Lassi.

Service was fast and attentive, and prices are reasonable for the TTDI neighbourhood. If you want to avoid driving to the area, there is an MRT station (Taman Tun Dr Ismail), but you’ll have to walk for about 15 minutes.

Big Singh Chapati also has branches in Bandar Puteri Puchong and Subang Jaya.
