Yasmin introduced me to a chic cafe in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. It’s called ‘Mukha’, inspired from a place of the same name in Yemen where traders from all over the world used to meet and trade coffee in the 15th century. And here I was thinking it meant ‘face’ in Tagalog. 😛

The cafe is divided into two sections, interior and exterior (smoking). The outside has lots of mismatched, squishy cushions and chairs that somehow create a unified look. The inside, decorated with boards to emulate an old trading place, is also comfortably cluttered. There is vintage stuff lying around, like a couple of standing fans, boxes, etc which gives the place a homely feel. The menu is a giant blackboard with hand written items on it.

Green tea latte, which came with pretty coffee art.

Like? The taste wasn’t too sweet.

Dislike? The texture was powdery.

The main reason why we came to Mukha was to try out their fried Mars Bars! I’ve only seen this item ONCE in Scotland, and I’ve never seen it here before. It came with a serving of vanilla ice cream sprinkled over with chocolate powder. The ice-cream was melty as it was sitting next to the piping hot, freshly fried Mars Bar.

The batter has a savoury flavour. The inside was dripping, gooey goodness. The three elements – crispy batter, gooey chocolate and soft, cold ice cream came together to make a delectable dessert. It was very sweet though.

I think the idea is genius, to fry Mars Bars.

Other items on the menu are mostly Western fusion dishes. I’ll come back and try them next time! 🙂
