The Petronas Twin Towers needs no introduction. A symbol of modern Malaysia, they’re one of the most visited attractions in the country.

While they’re a marvel to look at up close – especially from the base of the towers where they seem to soar unendingly up to the heavens (possibly earning you a cricked neck in the process) – there’s a better vantage point nearby where you can soak in the stupendous views of the buildings + the beautiful KL skyline.

Located about five minutes away from the towers is Saloma Link (Pintasan Saloma), a 69-metre bridge linking the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Kampung Baru (despite its name, which translates to ‘New Village’, it’s one of the older neighbourhoods in KL).

Opened in 2020, the bridge’s design is inspired by the Junjung Sireh, a traditional, multi-layered decorative bouquet used in Malay culture for weddings, celebrations, and other important ceremonies. Its sleek grey body with multiple panels looks futuristic and impressive during the day, but it’s at night when the scene truly comes to life in a splendid show of colourful, changing LED lights.

Prior to the bridge’s opening, it was hazardous to cross from Kg Baru to KLCC, as there’s a highway and a river in between, and the walk would take about 30 minutes. Saloma Link conveniently cuts the travel time to just 5-10 minutes – of course not accounting for the extra time you’ll be spending taking photos.

Stick around a bit to watch the colours on the tunnel change.

The bridge is named after Saloma, the late Malaysian-Singaporean actress, who is buried in the cemetery near Jalan Ampang. Although most know her as the wife of the legendary P.Ramlee, Saloma was a prolific actress, singer, and trendsetter, who held her own during the boom of Malay cinema and entertainment in the 1950s – 60s.

Interior view of the tunnel. The criss-crossing layers and patterns are reminiscent of a traditional woven mat (anyaman tikar).

If you’re in the KLCC area, especially after dark, Saloma Link is definitely worth a visit for some pretty pictures!

How to get there: The entrance from KLCC is near Menara Public Bank, just across the road from Suria KLCC Shopping Centre at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers. From Kampung Baru, it’s about 100-200m from the Kampung Baru LRT station.

Closed from 1AM – 5AM, lights on from 7PM to 11PM

  1. Thanks for the great tip. I wish I’d known that before visiting KL. Clearly, it’s better to go in the evening.
