KKV is one of China’s most popular lifestyle brands, carrying lots of cute and interesting items that will make you scream ‘take my money!‘, just like Fly in the Futurama meme. So when they opened their first store in Malaysia back in February this year, the queue was, understandably, insane. Apparently some people waited in line for hours just to enter the store!

The good part about being late to the hype train is that the crowds have long dispersed – so when N and I swung by a couple of months after the store’s opening, we were able to look around in relative peace. Here’s how the experience went!

It’s hard to miss the store’s bright yellow facade, which sticks out like a beacon just off Bukit Bintang’s main thoroughfare.

When I picture unbridled consumerism, I picture this. Almost every item in KKV is a want, not a need. Granted, they’re very cute wants, especially the plush toys. And the mini figurines. And the hair accessories. The colourful mugs and fake potted plants. You get the drift.

Trivia: Our brain gets a hit of dopamine whenever we shop. Which is probably why we get sucked into a spiral of buying things that are nice-to-haves (I don’t need my fancy scented candles, but I have at least three expensive ones that have been sitting pretty on the shelf). Living in the city and having to endure the daily grind, it’s hard not to sneak in a purchase or two of something ‘useless’, just to feel a semblance of happiness.

My super depressing gripes aside, don’t let that stop you from shopping at KKV. You do you!

The ground floor features cute figurines, some popular characters from Disney, and even Crayon Shin Chan, that will make nice additions to any collector’s display cabinet. If you’re into surprises, KKV has a selection of mystery boxes too. Another section displays a wide range of plushies – they have dinosaurs, owls, polar bears, chicks, boba, cacti – you name it, they have it!

The home and living section carries air fresheners, scented diffusers, fake potted plants, bins, and bedding. Most of the items here are quite affordable, so if you’re looking to spruce up your living space (or if you’re searching for a housewarming gift), KKV is a good spot!

The second floor has more home and living essentials, toys, stationery, accessories, and apparel.

Girls will enjoy the abundance of cute hair clips, bucket hats, and other accessories.

I went in KKV determined to just window shop, but the mug section seriously tempted me (I have a thing for cute mugs), especially these ones in iridescent colours. My restraint won out in the end.

The upper floors are a haven for any makeup lover, with a variety of cosmetics and beauty products – from fake lashes and eyebrow pencils, to foundations, eye shadows, and much more. The store’s designers have done an excellent job with the displays: the wall of make up sponges in rainbow hues is especially striking!

Soaps and bath bombs in a dazzling array of colours and shapes. The cupcake ones look good enough to be eaten.

Shampoo and bath products that you may not find in regular retail stores.

KKV also has a dedicated section for snacks, and a ramen ‘room’ that doubles as an Instagram spot. You can find a mix of local and imported cup noodles and instant noodles in this area.

The above is just a fraction of the variety of goods you can get at KKV – so it’s a good place to shop at if you’re looking for lifestyle products to fill up the emptiness in your heart your home with. Most of the products are affordable, and good as gifting options.
