I haven’t had a proper bag since the demise of my beloved Vans crossbody over a year ago (the stitching on the strap came off) – so when Sometime opened a physical store at IOI Mall, I figured it was high time I got a proper bag to replace the cheap, fraying canvas totes I’ve been lugging around everywhere lol.

I’ve followed Sometime on Instagram for (drumrolls) some time now, because I like their minimalist designs, which are done in collaboration with some big names in the local fashion industry, from Rizalman to Neelofa and Alia Bastamam. The brand has been around since 2012 and used to sell exclusively online, but has since opened several physical stores, including in 1Utama, IOI City Mall Putrajaya, and Gardens Mall KL.
I went to visit the IOI Mall Puchong branch a couple of days after its opening. The look of the store is in vein with their bag designs – simple but classy and elegant, like a high-end boutique. Products are arranged neatly on smooth, gray stone shelves and island counters, while ambient lighting highlights miniscule details on each bag.

Sometime prides itself in creating high-quality bags without animal leather; favouring materials such as synthetic leather and microfibres instead. Products are semi-handmade and made in small batches, and their designs range from fun and feminine to bold and functional, to suit a variety of occasions. Most are totes and lady’s handbags, but there are also messenger bags, drawstring pouches, laptop bags, and even cup holders.

One of their bestsellers – the Picola series.
They also offer engraving services for certain products, so you can customize your bag with your name, or as a gift.

Although I like tote bags, they’re always slipping off because of my rounded shoulders – so I went with their bestselling Velia series. It comes with detachable straps, so I can turn it into a crossbody bag. You can choose either the M (24cm x 30cm) or the L version (32cm x 38cm) if you want more space.
There are a few colours to choose from, including black, mocha, and brown. The olive one caught my eye as I think it lends a splash of colour to my usually black wardrobe – so olive it is! There’s a zippered flap on the front for storing keys and other small essentials, and another open on at the back. The bag has plenty of storage space; enough for me to store a water bottle, purse, and a thick book. The faux leather feels smooth and velvety, almost like actual leather, while the canvas is thick and sturdy. Gold plated zippers and accents add a touch of luxury.
Overall, super happy with my purchase, which cost RM209 – a very affordable price given the quality and craftsmanship.
