We Malaysians love our ‘food trends’. A couple of years back everyone was crazy about bubble milk tea, the likes of Chatime, Gongcha, etc. Then it was Taiwanese desserts ala Snowflake, the one with grass jelly and taro balls. Now, the in thing is Kakigori, a traditional Japanese summer treat of shaved ice, which comes with toppings like matcha, red bean, honeydew and other fruits. The most famous place that serves it in the Klang Valley is probably Kaki-Gori in Taman Paramount, which I visited a few months ago with Evelyn (review here).

I didn’t know we had an outlet serving kakigori in Puchong until S told me (coz he was craving for it for supper) ! Mykori Dessert Cafe in Bandar Puchong Jaya is located on the second floor of a shoplot, accessible via side stairs. Despite its somewhat ‘hidden’ location, the cafe was packed with customers on a Sunday night.

The din was deafening due to the small space – not the best place to chill and chat. We opted to sit outside which wasn’t air conditioned but quieter.

More choices compared to Kakigori! There’s Watermelon, Honeydew, the usual Green tea and red bean, etc. We opted for the Mango Cheesecake.

Had a Cheese/Ham Taiyaki to nibble on while waiting for our dessert. It was filled with hot, gooey cheese sauce and thin slices of ham.

Our Mango Cheesecake kakigori! Also got a flower tea, although for some odd reason the tea tasted like metal shavings.

The shaved ice was really good, with a soft yet creamy texture. The ice itself seemed to be lightly flavoured with hints of vanilla/milk, and there was just the right ratio of sweet chunky mango poured over it. The cheesecake flavour was fairly mild, but we were surprised to find generous chunks of it at the bottom of the bowl. Like actual cheesecake chunks with a crumbly pastry base.

New favourite dessert! The price is quite hefty though, at RM22. Probably something to have every now and then, but not always. 😛
