Blush is one of those makeup steps that can instantly make you look more awake, alive, and ready to face the day, even if you’re running on three hours of sleep. But with so many options out there, the classic question remains: powdered blush or cheek tint?

Powdered Blush: The Classic
Powdered blush has been everyone’s go-to for years. It’s easy to control, blends smoothly, and gives you that soft-focus finish. It’s great for people with oily skin or anyone who prefers a more traditional makeup routine. There are a couple of cons, however:
- Can look cakey on dry skin
- Doesn’t always last through Malaysia’s humidity
- Not the best if you want that natural glow
Cheek Tint: The Fresh Glow
Cheek tints have been making a comeback because they give that effortless, naturally flushed look. They’re lightweight, long-wearing, and melt right into the skin.

That brings us to the essence Juicy Bomb cheek and lip tint, which I got sent some samples of recently.
It’s pH-reactive, which means that the pH-sensitive dyes change colour based on the skin’s acidity, creating a more custom shade. Personally, I find that it looks more natural and less cakey than powdered blush. The formula is light, blends easily, and isn’t sticky or greasy – you can even apply it with your fingers. Bonus is that it smells like watermelon and berries, which makes application a little more fun.

So… Which Should You Choose?
If you love matte finishes, or full-face makeup days powder blush still has your back. But if you like lazy-girl makeup (like moi) or a more natural glow / low-effort blending, I find that cheek tint works better. It also stays on much better in our weather.
Where to Find Them
essence’s JUICY BOMB tint is available in Juicy Berry or Juicy Melon and is priced at RM22.70. Available at Watsons nationwide and online on TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Lazada.
