I’m not always in the mood for proper lipstick. Sometimes I just want my lips to look alive without committing to being that put-together.

So when I had the chance to try out essence’s Juicy Bomb lip gloss, I jumped at it, and honestly…they’re kind of perfect for lazy makeup days, and to give the lips a bit of a lift when I’m on the go. Bonus points if it hydrates and moisturize, especially while travelling (we know how dry lips can get aboard the plane).

Flavours
They come in Lovely Litchi, Witty Watermelon and Poppin’ Pomegranate. Both the litchi and the watermelon (my favourite) smells a bit like fruity bubble gum, while the pomegranate has a stronger, sweeter scent. Don’t expect colour; they’re mostly clear with just a hint of tint. More “my lips but juicier.”
Texture
They’re glossy but surprisingly not sticky, which is important because you don’t want to battle with your hair getting stuck to your lips everytime the wind blows. The texture feels more like a comfy lip oil than a gloss. Of course, you can’t compare them to a lip balm, which is more for healing / sealing in moisture, but they do have some beneficial ingredients like sweet almond oil, which is rich in vitamin E.
Application
It’s super convenient to swipe it on even without looking at a mirror, thanks to the slanted applicator. Effortless chic.
Verdict
Cute, glossy, and low maintenance, easy to throw into a travel bag or makeup kit. Not a game-changing product, but definitely a mood-lifting one. Retail prices are around RM9.70, available online at retailers such as Watsons, or in-store at select beauty and personal care stores nationwide.
