What makes a birthday celebration special? For some, it’s the food; for others, it’s the presents.

For me, it’s the time I get to spend with friends and loved ones. It’s seeing the smile on their faces, knowing that they are surrounded by people that they love and who love them in return.

Since moving out from my family home, I haven’t spent much time with the parents due to work/life commitments – so the Dad’s birthday recently was the perfect occasion to go back and bond. To add some spice, we got the Cake Explosion Gift Box by Cake Rush to surprise him with.

If you haven’t heard, the Cake Explosion Gift Box from Cake Rush is the latest trend to hit our shores and offers a charming twist to any celebration, with its fun and creative ‘explosion’ boxes. What your recipient will get is not just a cake, but a whole bunch of personalised goodies that ‘spring’ out when the box is opened – often to much smiles and laughter.

The box comes with a choice of Rainbow Cake, Chocolate Fudge, Pandan Gula Melaka, or Walnut Carrot cake, as well as four enchanting paper butterflies and a customisable message card. If you’re looking for more flair and drama, there are Add-Ons that you can choose from too including four extra butterflies, customised pictures, flowers, and sweets.

And here’s a video of how the surprise went:

It was great to see the family’s reaction when the butterflies “fluttered” out of the box in a whirl of colours, especially the dad who giggled like a boy and seemed to regain 10 years of his youth. The paper butterflies are pretty and can be used for decorations or as keepsakes. You can also pack them back into the box and watch the magic unfold again!

As for the cake, I got the Chocolate Fudge flavour, which was moist and decadent but not too sweet and garnished with colourful sprinkles. The cake measures 4″ and is approximately 300 grammes. The cakes from CakeRush are made from halal-certified ingredients.

Aside from cakes, you can also choose to surprise your recipient with a Teddy Bear or a Ferroro Rocher ‘cake’, accompanied by sweet treats like chocolates.

The Cake Explosion Gift Box is priced at RM129, and delivery is available within the Klang Valley.
