Digital cameras are fast becoming redundant in this day and age of high-tech smartphone cameras, so the industry has to do some quick thinking on their feet if they are to stay in business.
For Casio, the way to go is by positioning themselves as a leader in the Selfie department. Their new digicams are almost solely focused on taking good selfies, with instant beauty filters, wider lenses for capturing bigger angles, and more : so it’s great news for our me-oriented generation.
The launching event for their Exilim series featured two new cams – namely the ZR5000 and the FR200.
The FR-200 is an outdoor camera, capable of capturing up to 180 degrees with its Dome View (fisheye) function, 208 degrees with its diagonal Super Wide Angle, and 360 degrees with its horizontal Panorama mode (but you have to pair two cameras for this). The device’s LCD-equipped controller is capable of detaching from the camera body so that users may take pictures separately, even from a distance.Like many cameras these days, it can be connected to the smartphone for simultaneous viewing.
Expect your pix/vids to be super clear as the FR-200 has a high resolution of 21MP, allowing vids to be shot in 4K. Downside? It doesn’t have a very long battery life, and the recording time is limited to 30mins.

Other features: shock and low temperature resistant, waterproof (up to IPX 8)and dustproof design makes it perfect for the outdoors. The cam comes in a self-portrait style (above) or can be folded down to look like a regular digicam.
The FR200 is going for RM2,399 and each purchase comes with a 10L waterproof bag, 16GB memory card and adapter (while stocks last).
Moving on, we have the ZR5000: a selfie-oriented camera that comes with an f2.7 19mm super wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom. Common problems with taking selfies are the low light conditions and shaking hands, which the camera eliminates with a 5-axis HS Anti Shake feature. Its 12.1 MP lens is more than enough for average use, and the cam also comes with various beauty enhancers such as the Make-Up Mode which clears the skin tone for a brighter, perkier-looking you. The LCD display can be tilted up to 180 degrees.
Price: RM1,949
I have a feeling these cameras are targeted at the womenfolk, so they come in a variety of colours. There’s plain black, white, and soft pastels like mint, pink and yellow.
