There’s more to Putrajaya than just government buildings and clean, pedestrian-friendly streets. On Tuesdays and Fridays, from 4pm to 10pm, you can visit Pasar Tani Putrajaya. There, you can shop for fresh groceries and also enjoy food.

The market is sizable, with about 40 – 50 vendors and divided into a wet and a dry section. The former sells fresh produce. This includes vegetables, meat, and seafood. The dry section carries hot food, drinks, clothing, and toys.

It’s always fascinating to see the variety of goods in these open-air markets. You won’t find some of these ingredients in supermarkets. They’re also generally cheaper.

There is a decent variety of food and snacks at the dry section as well. I like that they feature small entrepreneurs to highlight local products.

Cheap, off-brand clothing.

Expect to see civil servants from the surrounding offices enjoying their dinner here, or taking food away. It’s the usual Malay pasar malam fare – nasi lemak, nasi berlauk, murtabak, satay, fried chicken, and the like.

Something a bit more unique : colourful steamed cakes resembling the Chinese ‘fatt gou’.

These cakes looked too pretty (and cheap!) to pass up. We got a bunch of flavours to try – they all have the same ‘base’ but they taste different thanks to the cream. They were soft, moist, and not too sweet – very value for money and tasty as far as pasar malam cakes go.
Pasar Tani Putrajaya has since moved to a new spot in Precinct 4 Putrajaya in May 2025. (We visited in April, when they were still in Precinct 7). The new location is right in front of Padang Bola Sintetik Presint 4.
