If you’re travelling as a family, it makes more sense to book a homestay or AirBnB rather than separate hotel rooms – which is what we did on a trip back to Ipoh. After a bit of scouring the internet, we settled on Ipoh Town Homestay by See U, which had excellent reviews on both booking.com as well as Google.

The homestay is located in an apartment building with gated and guarded access, so you’ll need to make arrangements with the host to get the card before you enter the building. The card is also used to access the unit on your floor. There is a designated parking bay for those who are driving.

Booking homestays online can be a game of roulette, but in this case, happy to say that everything was just as pictured! The unit was clean, spacious, airy, and bright. With 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a living area and dining area, it was the right size for our family of five. Most importantly (for the millennial crowd), it had Wifi and air-conditioning.

The living area had an adjacent balcony that afforded sweeping views of the limestone hills nearby.

The apartment also has a kitchenette. You probably won’t be able to do full cooking, but they have some basic equipment like a microwave and electric kettle.

The rooms were sizable, with double beds, side tables, and a dresser in each. The two larger bedrooms had closets.

The bathroom has a water heater for warm showers. The host provides towels and toilet paper, but you’ll have to bring your own toiletries.

We enjoyed a pleasant two nights stay here! The location is fairly central, but you’ll still need a car to get around because it might be too far to walk to the town centre. Our stay cost RM572 for 3D2N via booking.com, so it worked out to only about RM111 per pax which I think is super reasonable.
