Tau foo far in Ipoh?
Say no more, fam.
I think there’s only one place that comes to mind – Funny Mountain Soya Bean & Tau Foo Far. In fact, I think it can be said that this is the most popular place for tau foo far in Malaysia (comments if you think I’m wrong!). And as a testament to their popularity, their operating hours are “10.30am til they run out of stock.” How many shops do you think can boast that?
The humble shop: super simple, no frills, busy kitchen where the elderly aunties/uncles and the young helpers scoop bowls of jiggly tau foo far from a giant bucket, or grab cool bottles of soya bean to be served to customers. The line was pretty long during our visit since it was a public holiday. There were also people doing ‘drive through’ ie stopping their cars by the road and just ordering from there, but I find it very inconsiderate coz they clog up the road and block other parked cars from exiting.
Photos of celebrities who have paid a visit to the shop adorn the side of a pillar.
Them workers going at it like machines. You can choose to takeaway or have it on the spot; just return the bowls once you’re done.
We got one bowl each, swimming in warm, sweet syrup. I don’t have to tell you how smooth it is – look at that amazing texture! Each slurp slipped down the throat with ease; it almost felt like drinking rather than eating. Wasn’t too sweet, with that fragrant aftertaste of silken tofu.
Verdict – definitely best tau foo far, hands down! We also bought two bottles of their refreshing cold soya bean, which was again, not too sweet and wonderful on a hot day.
