Trampoline Jumping at Jump Street Asia, PJ

If you’re bored of going to the same ol’ malls every weekend, here’s a suggestion: go trampoline jumping. 

At Jump Street Asia in Section 13, Petaling Jaya, both adults and children alike can work up a good sweat while having loads of fun, with hundreds of their interconnected trampolines and obstacle courses housed within a factory building.

And if you thought it was only for kids, think again. A good 10 minutes on the trampoline is equivalent to the cardio you get from a 30min jog – minus the impact on our joints!


I came here twice in two weeks; one for a media challenge, and the other with my brother over May Day weekend. Jumping sessions are by the hour, which was more than enough for us to get our heart pumping. If you’re an amateur, no worries as they have staff on site to give you a quick 10min warmup + basics.


The place is massive, with five different sections. The Cage is for children below 110cm, while Foam Pit is where you can dive into soft foam from a platform or from trampolines. Slam Dunk features three lanes of basketball hoops, there’s a Dodgeball Court and the Main Court which is the general trampoline area.

After an intense workout, one can then head on to the Cafe upstairs for some drinks and food.

They have locker facilities (RM4 for two hours), toilet but no shower.

The High Performance area features Olympic-spec trampolines with extra bounce, so it’s recommended for jumpers that are more advanced.

DodgeBall Court is fun when you have a big group of friends along, or if you’re willing to play with strangers. A judge will be on court during the game.


Be aware of your own capabilities! I thought I could do this air bag thing, which I did, but almost broke my foot in the process when it snagged on that little concrete space between the bag and the trampoline lol.


The Foam Pit was really fun. You can either launch yourself from the trampolines, or from the elevated platform. Doesn’t look that high but when you jump into the soft foam, you really feel the drop. The foam is squishy and hard to get out of so it works your muscles when you’re trying to ‘swim’ onto the surface.

Also, beware of annoying jumpers who hog the platform. I met this family of kids who went on so many times without allowing others in line to play, and the staff did nothing to stop them. In the end I got fed-up and just jumped from the trampolines instead.


Scoring a hoop while stationary seems hard enough; try jumping on a trampoline while at it!


Overall it was a really fun experience and more interactive than just jogging or going to a gym. If you’re an advanced jumper, you can even do various tricks and stunts on the trampoline, like backflips. I’d recommend going on an off-peak period though coz it gets crowded on weekends with screaming children, and you might have to wait your turn to go on some trampolines.

Dragon Run 2016 – 6K Obstacle Course on Inflatables

Malaysians will be familiar with Viper Challenge – the famous extreme obstacle course run that has participants pushing the limit in commando-style activities: crawling through mud, scaling 10-ft high walls, lugging tyres, and swinging across pools of dirty water. Now, we have something less extreme but no less challenging: Dragon Run, a 6K obstacle course on inflatables, inspired by martial arts.


Brought to Malaysia for the first time by HK-based event organisers Next Promotions, Dragon Run will be held at Skyranch, Genting from May 14 to 15. Touted as the ‘first of its kind’, it features 10 obstacles  and 15 inflatables, each designed to mimic a particular branch of martial arts: there’s Jeet Kune Do, Sumo, Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Kungfu.

Was lucky to be invited to try the inflatables out for work! Here’s a taste of what we experienced:


After the Dragon Gate, an archway decorated by Chinese drums, we plunged straight into the Great Dragon – a long, colourful inflatable shaped like the mythical beast. Climbing up into the ‘mouth’, we jumped down into a pit, crawled across a narrow walkway, climbed up the ‘tail’, slid down and then got on our bellies to crawl across a low space.

I was never super fit, so I had to take my time going through them. Also, you try lugging a heavy DSLR while trying to clear challenges + take nice photos lol.


If you’ve ever been on an inflatable, you’ll know that your weight sinks right into the soft, bouncy material. It was really hard keeping my balance. What’s more, it was a sunny day and the thing had been lying out in the sun so it was hot to the touch. Move quickly if you don’t wanna get burnt!

We also went into a small maze where participants had to kick a pole at every door, as well as ‘palm trees’ where an instructor would teach you how to punch and kick, Muay-Thai style.

I just need to paste a photo of my most hated person on the tree and imagine kneeing him/her in the groin. Ah, satisfaction. 


The ‘Sumo’ part of the obstacle course had these egg-shaped sumo-head inflatables, which participants have to push through.


The Yin Yang gate. If you’re not a fitness expert, that’s okay coz you can still bounce as normal on the inflatable, but for those who really wanna push themselves or show off their moves, you can even do backflips inside the obstacle!


The most exciting obstacle imo was the Big Boss. Towering at least two-storeys high, racers will have to climb up to the top, then pick a slide. Depending on which one, you will get either wet, very wet, or soaking wet coz there’s one with a small pool at the bottom! When you’re climbing up you don’t really feel it coz you’re looking upwards, but once you get to the top and look down, the slide looks impossibly tall. Almost as exhilarating as a roller coaster 🙂

Aside from obstacles, there will also be a Dragon Village where everyone in the fam can play games, do fun activities like face painting, and enjoy the food stalls. To ensure safety, the organisers will let people go in waves so that the inflatables don’t get too crowded.

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2014 – 7km Fun Run

BACK in high school, I played some sports – I was on the basketball team and had a green belt in Taekwondo. But I suffered a back injury back in 2006 and have been pretty much out of commission since then. Recently, my mum decided to sign up most of the family for the Penang Bridge International Marathon, since my cousin was doing the full 42km. It was a first time for myself, mi and my bro. So up North to Penang Island we went over the weekend!

We joined the easiest, the 7km Fun Run, which was scheduled to flag off at the base of Penang Bridge 2 at 8am. Being a late riser, it was really hard to drag myself away from the comfy hotel bed lol.


We left the hotel about an hour and a half earlier, but the traffic was still jam packed all the way to the bridge, since other categories started earlier. The 42 km flagged off at 1.30am. ._. Right before us, at 7.30am, were the 10km runners. As we made our way to the place, the sun was just rising, tinging the surrounding islands and sea in a beautiful array of blue, pink and orange.


Approaching the Second Penang Bridge, which opened earlier this year. It is the longest bridge in South East Asia at 25km and links the mainland to Penang Island. We were part of making history as we were the first runners to use the Second Bridge, as the previous marathons were all held on the first bridge.


There was an excitement in the air as our batch prepared for flag off. There were lots of stalls selling souvenirs, drinks and other items at the open space near the bridge. I wished they had started earlier because it was quite sunny by 8am – and we all know how relentless Penang weather is.


We started off with a light jog as we made our way to the bridge and took in the scenic island views from the railing. Some, like us, were taking it slow and just walking + light jogging, while others sprinted ahead in full gungho-ness. The sun was directly in our faces, so we had to squint against it as we made our way uphill. A total of 60,000 runners showed up for the whole marathon in all categories, so it was a real sea of humans : at some parts we found it difficult to even move faster because there were so many people blocking the way.




Approaching the halfway point for our 7km. Other runners were already making their way back on the opposite side of the bridge. Ambulances were on site to help with any injured runners. The only qualms I had was that they didn’t provide any drinks along the route except at the end – and only small paper cups. I don’t know how it works in other marathons, but it’s probably coz they don’t want the runners to block traffic by having drink breaks.


As we made our way back, there was a pitstop for drinks, and the runners were all crowded around it. Paper cups and bottles were littered everywhere, and some weren’t even trying to look for bins – turning the bridge into a large rubbish bin. This girl even threw her empty water bottle over the side of the bridge , which I admonished loudly by saying that she was treating the place like her own garbage disposal at home. She either didn’t hear me or pretended to ignore me – but she wasn’t the only one. It was disheartening to see how a lot of people were just littering everywhere. This is why Malaysians can never be a first world country – because we are still stuck in third world mentality. And the cheek of some Malaysians to say that ‘foreigners’ are dirty and uncivilised! Some of us aren’t any better.

Enough grousing though. It was a great feeling when I finally stepped through the finish line – not because I won anything, but the fact that completing the run was a victory in itself. For a person who has never walked further than her neighbourhood garden and is not active in anything, being able to set my mind and to complete a 7km walk/run is an achievement. Now I know why so many people join the running movement! It’s a feeling like no other when you cross that finish line. Looking forward to joining more runs in the future – with proper training, of course.
