You can probably tell by now that I’m a writer, not an orator. I chose the pen because I have a tendency to put my foot in my mouth when I speak. But this topic is so frustrating that I feel that I have to say something.
I guess I just want to understand the reason behind the selfishness of human beings and utter disregard for other people’s health and safety. I mean, I see it on TV about mass protests in the US and go ‘okay glad that isn’t happening in Malaysia’… and then it does and I’m like ???
Quick overview: There’s an ongoing trial involving our former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who faces corruption charges. Najib’s defence is that its a donation from Arab royalty (A RM42 million donation, hmmmm??? I guess I need to make better friends). High Court passed a guilty verdict, and he’s probably going to appeal and it’ll drag on for god knows how long. But that’s not the point. The point is the 1,000 supporters who showed up outside the court in ‘solidarity’, blatantly disregarding social distancing rules, and just clustering around as if we aren’t in the middle of a pandemic.
Are your lives and the lives of your loved ones really that cheap, that you’d risk it for an hour or two of shouting and yelling at a decision where your presence has virtually no bearing ? It’s as if the judge would be like.. oh okay he managed to get 10,000 supporters outside, I guess we’ll release him? lmao. I… just. Cannot.
