Hey guys! Time for another blog tag, this time about one of my favourite past times – gaming. I’ve been playing video games since I was a kid, and it has always been a great outlet of escapism. When I’m in the game world, roleplaying as a dragon slayer, or a Pokemon trainer, or Link on a quest to save Zelda, I forget about the harsh realities of everyday life for awhile – there’s just me, the quest and the satisfaction of finally reaching a goal.
I know the hardcore gaming community can be a little elitist in defining what a ‘true gamer’ is ie you’re not considered one if you don’t play certain games – but to be frank, I think that’s bull. Games are meant to be enjoyed, so what’s the fun in boxing someone into a rigid ‘mold’?

1. What is your gamer tag?
owlisheris, with a lowercase o. Hit me up on Steam!
I used to be quite a night owl back in my college days. I also like the word owlish (which means appearing to be solemn or wise). I find it quite fitting, since I wear glasses.
2. PC or Console?
I’ve always played on a PC. Growing up, my family was not well off, so we never really asked for things like gaming consoles or whatnot, when we could just play on the computer. I never really got into consoles, even after I had the financial capability to buy my own.
3. Console of choice?
As mentioned, I don’t play much on consoles. I do have an emulator on the PC though, and I like playing old-school GBA and Nintendo DS games on it.
4. Handheld of choice? (DS, PS Vita, etc.)
Refer to 3.
5. Keyboard or Game Pad?
6. Singleplayer or Multiplayer?
Just as I am a recluse in real life, so am I in games, lol. I like story-driven games and taking my time to explore the game world to my heart’s content. But of course, there are games that are much more fun with a partner. Prior to quitting LoL, my online friends and I from Stickam would make plans to log in at certain times just to play with each other, even though we were living in different time zones. And despite my love for survival horror games, I am actually quite the chicken – so playing games like L4D/L4D2 and Dead Island with someone else was much more bearable coz I knew they would help save my noob ass.
7. What was the first game you have ever played?
Tank 1990. It came out the year I was born, so I only got to play it a couple of years later lol (possibly 6?). We had a video game console for a few years – I think my dad bought it for himself more than for us kids, coz he was always hogging it anyway lol. It was one of those brandless imitation units with 100-in-1 game cartridges.
8. Hardest game you have ever played?
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings. Despite being an INTP, I am quite bad at games that require strategy. Or maybe it isn’t that I’m bad, but more because I’m lazy. I do enough thinking in real life, so I want to kick back, hack and slash or just explore when I’m in the game world.
9. What was your first gaming system?
As mentioned above, a nameless gaming console. I was probably around six; we had it for a couple of years before it finally gave up the ghost. My brother saved up to buy a Game Boy Advance, but he never allowed me to play with it. We never had any other gaming systems except the computer.
10. What is your favorite game of all time?
The Dragon Age series. The story, lore and music is amazing. Dragon Age: Inquisition is by far my favourite; it has so much content, the characters are so well designed and fleshed out with their own backstories, and I love the fact that you can romance different characters and get different endings based on your choices/ actions in the game. I also liked the fact that all the Dragon Ages, from the first to the third, are so different in terms of the gameplay, but not difficult to pick up once you get the hang of it. I am so excited for the next instalment. My current PC is actually not very good at handling the graphics so its sometimes super laggy. I’m planning to play it properly once I get a better PC.
Coming in a close second is Borderlands 2. Again, great story and extremely fun, lots of shooting, guns and explosions, badass characters, a great big world to explore. What’s not to like?
I haven’t had the chance to play 3 yet because I don’t think my laptop can support such a new game – but from what I heard the writing isn’t as good as the 2nd. Borderlands: Pre-Sequel was disappointing for me.
11. What game are you currently playing?
I’m currently playing Lunar Legend on the GBA emulator.
12. Favourite video game genre?
13. Favourite video game character?
Oooh boy. I’m going to be a fan girl and say Mordecai from Borderlands 2. He actually looks like someone I had a crush on before. 😛 I wish we could play him as a main character rather than him just being a supporting one. Also, all the characters from Dragon Age Inquisition. All of them.
14. Which video game character do you hate most?
I don’t really hate any characters. But I find the thugs from Dead Island super annoying. They’re difficult to kill, you get KO-ed with one punch, and since Dead Island isn’t one of the games where you can just hack and slash, you have to really plan how to beat him up, or run away. They also have a way of scaring you by popping out of nowhere.
15. What new game you are most excited for?
Definitely Dragon Age 4: The Dread Wolf Rises. My reaction to the cliffhanger/reveal at the end of Inquisition was exactly the same as when I watched Avengers: Infinity War.
16. Favourite video game company/developer?
Bioware and Gearbox.
17. What gaming systems do you currently have?
I play most games on my laptop, which is a Lenovo Ideapad 320. I shouldn’t complain, but it’s a piece of crap. My old Dell laptop was better, and I used it for over 6 years.
18. How long have you been gaming?
Since I was 6? 7? I’m 30 now.
19. How long was your longest gaming session?
At the height of my Dragon Age obsession, I was playing from 9AM in the morning til 2AM – 3AM on weekends. I stopped only to shower and to eat. Yeah.
20. What game have you clocked the most time on?
If it’s still not clear yet what my favourite game of all time is, it’s Dragon Age Inquisition at 372 hours. Yes, it seems like a ridiculous amount of time to spend on a video game when I could be doing something else, but there you have it. I did a couple of replays but when I said it’s a super long game, I wasn’t kidding. One game (provided you do lots of exploring, of course) takes about 100 hours.
