Review: Two Scones One Cup, Section 17 Happy Garden PJ

(Update: This cafe is permanently closed).

Another weekend, another food adventure! After some pondering, we ended up driving to a place in PJ called Two Scones One Cup. Not sure if deliberate, but the name of an infamously NSFW video comes to mind… that, or I’m just dirty minded.

The cafe is cosy enough, with lots of natural light filtering in. There is also an outdoor patio for alfresco dining. Strategically placed plants, coupled with white walls and wooden/brick accents give it a spacious look. There is a counter in the centre with coffee press, cake display counter and drinks station.

Parts of the wall are decorated with cute little sticky notes bearing messages and well wishes from patrons, alongside food-related quotes.

Drinks menu.

The cafe’s signature scones. Available on the day we visited was plain, rose and cranberry flavoured. We ordered one plain and one cranberry (RM9), which came served with a dollop of clotted cream and strawberry jam.

The scones were quite sizable and not too sweet. Not the best I’ve had, but not bad either, especially when paired with cream and jam. The perfect companion to a nice hot cup of tea.

For mains, I had the Soup of the Day (mushroom) with a side of garlic bread. The mushroom soup wasn’t the instant type, so I could taste chunks of mushroom in it, and it was not too salty either. Garlic bread was a bit soggy though, but passable after it was dipped into the soup.

Bro had the Parmesan Chicken Chop, which was deep fried and served with salad. Flavours were okay but the chicken was just a little dry.

Moo and Pops had the Pesto Spaghetti, which was very salty. :/

The food wasn’t much to shout about, but I think the scones were good, and I have yet to try their cakes or afternoon tea sets. Service was slow, seeing that we were the only ones in the cafe, it still took more than 20 minutes to serve.

Verdict:

  • Pros – Good scones, cosy resto
  • Cons – Slow service, average food.
