Review: Tropical Spa, Setiawalk Puchong

Update: This outlet is permanently closed.

Been some time since I went to Setiawalk Puchong – the place seems to have lost its luster from when it used to be THE spot for Puchong-ites to hangout, just a couple of years ago. These days, weekends are still fairly busy, but visitors come mostly for the bars and the cinema. Some shops have closed down and lots lie vacant, but there are also a few new shops to check out. Saw a new massage/spa center there recently when I went to catch Logan at the theatre. They seemed to have some pretty value-for-money promotions, so I went to check it out.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, as she explained the different promotions and packages on offer. There were shorter treatments lasting an hour or so, but I opted for one with a 15-min footscrub, half hour herbal pouch treatment, and an hour aromatherapy massage (RM128 nett). Waited for 10 minutes for a therapist to be available, before I was ushered inside. The interior was too dark so I didn’t get to take any photos. Since it was a weekday afternoon, the place was empty and I could enjoy my treatment in peace and privacy.

PS: The therapists are Indonesian, not Thai, and they offer Balinese massages. Which I prefer over Thai anyway because they don’t stretch and pull you like cray.. not my cup of tea lol.

The footscrub was done in an open chamber with rows of cushy chairs. Soaked my feet in warm water scented with a bath bomb, and got them scrubbed and massaged. I was then led into a small room with a huge mirror and a bed. Soothing gamelan music played from the speakers overhead. My therapist was very friendly and all smiles – although she didn’t speak English, I could understand her Bahasa well. The pressure applied was just right and I actually dozed off a couple of times. The air conditioning was way cold though.

All in all, I think the service and environment was excellent. Considering how places like Thai Odyssey charge, I think this was value for money. Will return if I ever feel like splurging and pampering myself again.

PS: They also have branches in KL.
