I’ve been really stressed out over work lately coz we are rushing a magazine deadline. Sleep hasn’t been good, and my shoulders ache from constantly lugging my heavy bag + camera around for events. Since I had some money saved up from last month, I thought of splurging on a good ol’ massage after work. Initially I stopped by Endah Parade in Seri Petaling coz that mall is kinda dead and I thought it would be cheap, but they tried to rip me off (RM150 for 90 mins, you kidding me?) so I went to one closer to my house instead.
Healthland Wellness has branches all over the Klang Valley, and I visited the one in Bandar Puteri Puchong. Apart from traditional foot massages ,they also have Thai massage, aromatherapy and more.
Waiting area was nice, clean and filled with the soothing smells of herbs and perfume. Despite being a weekday, the place was busy and I had to wait for half an hour.
I requested for a male therapist.
Why? Haha. I got a male therapist from another place once and he was really good. Like, really, really good. I dreamt of beaches that night, that was how relaxing it was. :D
Asians can be quite shy, which is why the therapist asked me if I was okay with it since I had to be topless and all. I said I was fine. They are professionals after all and this isn’t some dodgy parlour.
The therapist was Thai, tall but soft spoken. Gave me some tea, washed my feet, then brought me upstairs to the rooms. It was too dark to take a pic, but the place was spacious and calming, with soothing music playing in the background.
I wouldn’t usually chat with my therapist coz I wanna chill (and most of them don’t speak English anyway), but I found him to be very friendly and knowledgeable. And he spoke good English. He talked about his family back in Thailand, and how he came here a few months ago to make a living. He was surprisingly observant.
“Did you go to the Europe or US before?” he asked.
Me: *amazed* Yeah, how did you know?
Him: the accent. haha (apparently I didn’t sound like a typical Malaysian lol).
He told me that sometimes they do get clients who grope them (wtf?).
Me: So what do you do ? Does the management know?
Him: Yeah, they do. But it’s nothing serious so we bear with it. *sad smile*
It’s sad to see how they have to put up with stuff like this just to make a living. It wasn’t like he wasn’t educated – he spoke well and seemed to know a lot about current affairs. He was also really nice as he gave me some extra time after the session to teach me some massage techniques I could do at home.
Two hours flew by quickly – and the bill only came up to RM138 (take that you Endah-Parade massage parlour ripoff). Not bad for a relaxing massage session and chat.
I did end up with bruises for two days though coz obvi a male massage therapist uses more strength lol. But my shoulder pain is gone! :)
