Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It’s a long weekend here in Malaysia (four days!). For those celebrating the occasion, I hope you’re having a great time with your loved ones.
Mi wanted to go shopping for clothes, so we went to Sunway Pyramid. The place was packed with crowds of holiday shoppers – parking as a nightmare. We bought some stuff, then bought some snacks for tea.
Ever had chewy doughnuts? They sell these at Mr Donut, which is located within the mall’s Aeon Jusco store.
Here’s an interesting story: Mr Donut was originally from America, but the brand wasn’t doing so well there and it was finally bought over / absorbed into the Dunkin Donuts franchise. Meanwhile, Japanese investors bought over rights to the original brand, brought it over to their island. Boom – it became the largest doughnut chain in the country. Goes to show that tastes in different regions + marketing tactics vary. Today, the brand mostly has a presence in Asia in countries such as Phils, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea. The Japs have done a good job in turning the humble doughnut into a class of its own with a very special form of pastry: the chewy doughnut.
Their signature is the Pon De Ring, which is shaped like a donut but with round ridges. The texture is chewy and fluffy, like a cross between soft mochi and airy bread. On its own, it has a slight saltiness, but as you can see, the doughnuts are often dusted over with sugar and other toppings, just like a regular one. If you know me, you’ll know I like eating chewy stuff (mochi, squid, isaw. lol) so this was super addictive. It’s a shame I don’t come to Sunway Pyramid more often.
Green tea-flavoured.
They also sell regular doughnuts, ice-blended drinks and some other pastries. Each mochi doughnut costs Rm2.50, Rm12 for a box of six.
Pon de Rings, ‘White Christmas’ which had white and dark chocolate frosting with fairy sprinkles, and chocolate-flavoured pon de ring

Anyway, back to actual Christmas day. I went back to my so-called college routine of staying up until 4am reading Manga online lol. Spent the day playing Dungeons & Dragons, because it’s Steam’s Winter Sale and a lot of games are going for cheap. ._. Someone please give me a gaming laptop for Christmas.
Mi baked tuna and cheese quiche for lunch. Yay!
