Mi hasn’t been feeling well, so she’s been seeing this traditional Chinese massage therapist in Section 8, PJ. I was free on Saturday so I ferried her there and waited for her session to be done. It was a weekend and nothing much was open, so we headed downstairs to a canteen-like place called Pan Cafe which serves Western and local dishes.
Mi had spring onion and ginger fish fillet with rice. She said it was too salty and she didn’t like that the fillets were fried first.. but that’s what you get at these cantinas where they have to prepare the food beforehand and just cook the sauce to go along with it.
I had grilled cod fillet with lemon butter sauce. It was one of the measliest fillets I’ve ever seen in my life.. and the fries portion was small too. Tastewise it was okay, especially the sauce which had a nice sour-sweetish tang. Coleslaw wasn’t good – had an unpleasant, bitter aftertaste. Fries were okay but I had to drown them in ketchup.
Overall, typical cantina fare where they have lots of options for you to choose from. Prices are reasonable for the area. I think they cater mostly to the working crowd because it was pretty dead on a Saturday.
