The thing about working in a startup/small company is that your roles are all rolled into one, or as we put it in Cantonese, ‘one leg kick‘ – meaning that you have to do everything on your own. In my previous company, my job was limited to reporting… but here, I’m writer/photographer/communications/marketing and even a little bit of sales thrown in.
And it’s loads of fun. Because you see the results of your hard work, and you’re building things from the ground up. However far this thing goes, it depends on what we put into it and how far we’re willing to go. And with such a close-knit team the success is much sweeter because we know we put it together, brick by brick.
I helped out at my first company event at Sheraton Imperial, KL recently. It was a prize-giving ceremony for a contest. It was simple stuff, mostly – ice breaking followed by prize presentation. We had to be there a earlier to set up the buntings/banners and make sure the refreshments for guests were ready.
It was my first time in Sheraton, one of the oldest high-end hotels in KL. The lounge area was swanky, with a cocktail bar area hidden within a cozy nook.
Refreshments : ‘Traffic Light’, a fizzy tropical fruit drink in three layers.
After the event, we proceeded to Sheraton’s Essence cafe for a buffet lunch. The theme was Superheroes, as can be seen from the various Marvel superhero decos like Batman and Spiderman at the food counters.

Spacious seating area
A Subway-style sandwich counter, with different kinds of breads and filling to choose from. I had a croissant with mayo egg, chicken and turkey ham, smoked salmon, fresh sliced tomatoes and green coral veggie + side of jellyfish.
Shouldn’t have taken such a big croissant, it was hard to finish.
They also have pasta, roast beef, cold cuts and salads, local delights, roast duck/chicken; usual buffet fare.
Large selection of desserts 🙂
Captain America themed
Soft vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, chocolate rice and chocolate fondue-d fig.:)
The buffet is priced at RM89++ per pax.
