Moo and I were alone at home over the Merdeka holiday, so we decided to have some good ol’ mom-daughter bonding time over dinner. After driving a couple of times around Bandar Puteri and realising that most shops were closed, we finally gave in to our rumbling bellies and settled for Sun Wong Kee Seafood Restaurant. The place is quite famous and has been featured in newspapers / TV shows, but I’ve only been here once.
So I walk in and the owner/manager says, “I haven’t seen you in a long time, how are you?”
I just looked at him like O-O “You remember me?”
“Yeah, of course I do!”
“I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
“no no no, it was definitely you.”
So I either made a great impression, because I came here a couple of years ago and that was just one time, or he was just ‘blowing water’ as we say in Chinese / talking nonsense. Maybe that line works for all the customers, I don’t know.
Prices at Sun Wong Kee are pricier than other seafood restos. We ordered two small dishes – salt and pepper mantis prawns, and fried omelette with shrimp
The omelette was tasty enough, with bits of springy shrimp in it, but nothing special. The good thing is that the portion is proportionate to its price.
The mantis prawn, despite being a ‘small’ serving (RM20) was huge. It was dry and the batter was too thick, but it wasn’t too bad. We couldn’t finish both dishes and took a doggie bag home.
I wouldn’t come here because the food is just okay and the price is above average, and there are other seafood restos out there that are cheaper and tastier. But that’s just my personal opinion, so if you’d like to give this place a try, by all means.
