I was hunting for lunch at Tropicana City Mall in PJ recently when I came across a lunch promo at Gyu-Kaku, a Japanese bbq place, and decided to give it a try!
They have six options for their lunch set, which comes with a side of rice, soup and milk pudding. I had the chicken katsu – a breaded chicken thigh fried to golden brown perfection and drizzled over with a teriyaki sauce. It was generously portioned, extremely crispy on the inside but well cooked and tender on the inside without being oily. One of the better chicken katsus I’ve tasted 😀 The soup had bits of sesame in them. The rice felt like authentic Japanese sticky rice with a fluffy but slightly gooey texture.
To wash it down, hot Yuzu tea. It has a citrusy, fruity taste similar to sweetened orange.
After the satisfying meal, there was also dessert in the form of milk pudding topped with sweet caramel. THIS. WAS. DA. BOMB. I wish they sold it individually! The texture was thick, creamy and packed with the taste of milk. If you don’t like milk you might want to give this a miss; but I love milk so.
The meal came up to RM23. Pretty reasonable for a restaurant with this environment, and the portions weren’t measly. I’d come back and try another set lunch again! 🙂
