Pasta Zanmai, Tropicana City Mall PJ

I dropped by Pasta Zanmai during lunch sometime last week at Tropicana City Mall. It’s my first time at this outlet, and the service is prompt and friendly. The place serves Japanese-fusion cuisine with a Western touch – so you get things like pizza topped with salmon, or Okonomiyaki-style pizza, pasta paired with Japanese chicken katsu, etc.

I didn’t want to have a heavy meal, so I ordered smaller dishes instead.

Green tea served in a beautiful white and blue patterned porcelain teapot and matching cup.

Ever since I started my ‘health’ (ahem) regime, I’ve developed a taste for green tea/hibiscus and lemon tea. Drinking warm cups of tea really helps calm the stomach and digestive system after food.

A soupy cream onion soup topped with a dollop of cheese. It was a tad too salty, could have used some bread to sop it up. Otherwise, pretty decent soup. Portion is big enough to make you full.

Ika karaage (squid tentacles) as a snack, served with a wedge of lemon and Mayo. The portion was not worth the price as there were only a few measly pieces of squid, and it cost me >RM11++. Tastewise it was okay but I’ve had better.

The grilled scallops with teriyaki sauce was good, but also on the pricier side. The scallops were large and juicy, while the teriyaki sauce was sweet and brought out the freshness of the seafood.

Pasta Zanmai is a cousin to Sushi Zanmai, which serves more authentic Japanese fare.
