UPDATE: Marshall Burger @ Damansara Uptown is now closed.
Losing weight isn’t easy, especially if you work as a journalist and have a bunch of colleagues who love eating, lol.
But yeah.I didn’t tell you guys that I had a really shitty birthday in where I didn’t get to eat because my mum wouldn’t let me ‘celebrate’, and I was working from 10am til midnight because there was a last minute assignment.
So I decided to reward myself with a CHEAT DAY™.
Went to Marshall’s Burgers in Damansara Uptown, SS15. Now this place has been gaining rave reviews ever since it opened a branch here in the Klang Valley. Originating from Penang, the place is apparently very well-established and well-loved by Penangites. It’s also one of those rare places which serves pork burgers, (since some burger joints here have to cater for the Muslim crowd and are therefore pork-free or halal). The interior was a warm red and grey, with black and wood accents. Cute scrawls of the menu’s items lined one side of the place like a classroom blackboard.
They have equally cutesy, tongue-in-cheek names like The Cock for their double chicken burger and Big Fry for their double fish. Customers can also get a rundown of what the burger is gonna be about.
Yvonne had a Hawaiian Piggy (RM15.50) which came with a pork patty, ham, pineapple, lettuce and onions. Top up RM5.50 for a canned drink and side of thick cut fries/onion rings. The fries were surprisingly good! I don’t like thick cut fries because they’re so hard to get right – they’re usually too soggy or too crispy, but this was potatoey goodness. The onion rings were great as well.
I don’t often get to eat bacon, so I opted for the Fat Piglet (RM13.50) – strips of pork bacon and juicy, done just-right pork patty, melty cheese, lettuce, caramelised onions, tomatoes – all mashed between two warm, soft toasty buns and sprinkled over with sesame seeds. The pork patty is a real winner. Succulent and sealed with juices without being overly greasy. Bruce had the The Boar, which is TWO pork patties with cheese, but it was so big even he couldn’t finish it lol.
Well-utilised CHEAT DAY™.

We then went to another cafe nearby, Kaffa, to end the afternoon’s meal on a sweet note. They have a branch at the Penang international Airport. I think they serve pretty good coffee and food. Service here is definitely faster and more efficient. It was packed with customers on that Saturday afternoon.
‘Not-so-cheesy’ cheesecake, which was more sugar and cream than cheese. The base was super crumbly and kept flying everywhere when we tried to cut a piece, but the chocolate part was gooey goodness. Personally, I really like the cheese on top because it was sweeter and less filling.
I had the salted caramel macchiato, which came in a pretty blue and white porcelain cup and caramel drizzles in a flower pattern which looked too good to be eaten D: The sea salt sprinkled on top lends it a slightly salty tang to balance out the sweet caramel sauce. The coffee itself wasn’t very strong-flavoured, but it was a great drink all the same. And since I accidentally posted this on my Facebook, my mum went berserk and got mad at me for CHEATDAY™. Ergo, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t need to read this. @_@ *hides post from family on fb*

That’s all for CHEAT DAY™. Now I shall burn off all those calories by working twice as hard on that cycling machine….
